The Door In The Hedge

The Door In The Hedge, by Robin McKinley, is the retelling of four classic fairy tales; the Stolen Princess, the Princess and the Frog, the Hunting of the Hind, and the Twelve Dancing Princesses. The Stolen Princess is about a town on the edge of Faeryland, where girls go missing on their seventeenth birthday, stolen away by the fairies. Princess Linadel has never worried about the fairies, until now. Her seventeenth birthday is tomorrow. The Hunting of the Hind is about Korah, who's brother was enchanted by the golden hind, searching off to find the mystical hind and beg for forgiveness for her brother. Yet she soon discovers the golden hind does not work alone. The Princess and the Frog is about Rana, a princess determined to save her kingdom from falling into the hands of Aliyander, the evil prince who is sought to marry her. Is it possible the one to save her is a frog? The Twelve Dancing Princesses is about twelve sisters cursed to dance every night until their shoes are worn through. Determined to figure where his daughters dance each night, the kind offers a reward to the man who can find out. For a long time, no one can. But then the soldier comes along. Within each story, Robin McKinley has added her own twists and charms, creating a fresh look on these timeless tales.
